School of Scales

School of Scales was made as part of the International Marine Environment Artist-in-Residency Project in Taiwan, run by the National Museum of Marine Science & Technology (NMMST). The work is currently exhibited at the Keelung Eco Park.
â
The work is made of bamboo, recycled fishing net and fishing line, shells and reflective rubbish, creating a school of fish that appear to swim down the bank toward the ocean. The individual scales move gently in the wind, reflecting the sunlight.
â
The theme of the project was 'Making Connections' and the work aims to encourage viewers to make connections between their actions and the impact they can have on their environment, to develop a respect for nature and in particular the marine life that surrounds Keelung.
The work was made with students from Dong Guang Elementary School.
